The Amazing Power of God Reliance

No doubt you have heard it: Let go and let God. Sounds great. But not always that easy to put into action unless you have a little tickle…
Let’s consider for a moment, the first time you got on a bike. Do you remember that moment, and the feeling of amazing unseen force keeping you up?
Of course comparing God to such a tiny thing is obviously minimizing the amazing power of God, so I won’t compare it. However, each day we walk around the world, we become as accustomed to the power of God spinning the planet, growing every green thing, and even making our own bodies operate. We become as unaware of the power as we are unimpressed when we get on our bike to go for a ride. The “feel” is gone.
However, just crack open your Bible and see how many times the word “feel” or related words are used. Then consider the context they are used in. Soon you will get the impression that God doesn’t want us to put a lot of stock in how we feel.
What the Bible does discuss at length are things like wisdom, knowledge, and understanding. Yep, the more logical and thoughtful sorts of things.
Similarly, the “Let go and let God.” concept is not about feeling it. It is probably based on Matthew 6:33 ( But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. ) and Luke 12:31 ( But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be added unto you. ) In the verses prior to those two, each book it discussing the lack of need for worrying about where we will get our next meal, or where we will get our clothing, etc. (You can click the links and check out the verses easily.) Again, we see that it is a decision on our part to simply let God handle it. Note that each phrase is also prefixed telling us that we need to be focusing out lives on God. No doubt we can expect the best results if we spend our lives doing that, rather than spending time worrying about the economy, or other troubles.
But that brings us back to the point. How do we do that? How do we decide to let God handle our needs, and simply focus on doing what God wants us to be doing?
Well we can often help ourselves to do things by using our feelings. Yes, rather than letting our feelings drag us around, we can cause them to move in the direction we want, and that can make things easier. Now isn’t that novel in this modern society where the opposite is sold to us over and over.
To get our feelings in line and marching like a little soldier in line with our requirements, we can simply look at our own hands. Consider a single hair follicle, and the tiny and amazing capability our body has to manufacture a hair continuously in such a small space. A machine that makes a single strand of thread is often the size of a desk. And yet God made us so that a single cell from each of two parents can form a new child with thousands of these little hairs, and that is just the hair. What about the brain for complexity.
If God can do that, why would he not do what he said he would do? (He said that our physical needs would be “added unto” us. ) Following God has a nice little carrot attached.
Note that we can also read those two quotes above to perhaps indicate that we can only count on his promise of provision for our physical needs if we ~”seek the kingdom of God”. Doesn’t that also get those feelings going. (Yes, there is a possible stick attached too.)
Nothing like a carrot and a stick to snap those feelings into shape.
